Legion of Mary
We'd like to introduce you to the Legion of Mary, a ministry at IHM. Although you may have heard of this group, you may not be aware of just who they are and what they do!
What is it?
The Legion of Mary is a world-wide organization of lay Catholics who commit themselves to prayer and apostolic work in union with Our Lady and under the guidance of a spiritual director. The Legion has been active in the United States since 1921, has known continuous Papal approval, and was endorsed by the Second Vatican Council.
The IHM group is under the guidance of Dc. Steve Manzene, our Spiritual Director, and is open to parishioners of both IHM and SJW.
What does it do?
It inspires its members to be better Catholics through a program of prayer and service in union with the Holy Spirit and Mary.
We serve others by bringing communion and visiting our homebound parishioners and those in nursing homes. We also follow up with families of deceased parishioners and families of newborns.
How does it work?
Members recite a daily prayer and the rosary and attend weekly meetings.
Another form of membership is to be an auxiliary member. Their only requirement is to pray the rosary daily and say prayers that support active members.
Who can belong?
Any Catholic, 18 or older, man or woman, who would like to draw closer to Jesus and His mother, is welcome.
How do I start?
You begin by attending a meeting as a guest, with no obligation - seeing the Legion from the inside. You may also accompany an experienced member on a visitation assignment.
The Legion of Mary meets every Thursday at 9:30 AM at IHM Ryan Center.
For information, contact Mary Ann Caccamo at 315-451-3656 (h) or 315- 345-2166 (c).
